In October 2017, Andorra Telecom will take a new step in its internationalisation process, with the purchase of 37% of the shares of Avatel Telecom. This is a Spanish company that provides internet, telephone, television and data storage services with a strong presence on the Costa del Sol (Malaga), the Costa Blanca (Alicante) and the Campo de Gibraltar (Cadiz).
This telecommunications operator, whose customers include many foreign residents established on the Spanish coast, has a latest-generation fibre optic backbone network over 220 km in length.
In addition, the operation is accompanied by an agreement between the two parties to make Andorra Telecom a technological partner of the Spanish telecommunications company. The agreement foresees Andorra providing annual services such as the monitoring of the network via the Andorra Telecom operations centre, technical support in systems and a telephone helpline through the ESPIC contact centre. In addition, it gives priority to Andorra Telecom for any service Avatel Telecom wishes to subscribe to.
