Andorra Telecom

Andorra Telecom’s public initiatives include support for educational projects related to training in technology and innovation. Education in Robotics figures prominently among these projects.

Since 2014 the company has supported the Andorran Micro First Lego League competition, a global challenge aimed at schoolchildren which focuses on innovation, science and group work.

The competition, promoted by the Ministry of Education, Andorra Telecom and the Andorobots company, consists of designing, constructing and programming robots using Lego Mindstorms technology.

Each year, the FLL sets a new challenge to the participating teams, related to a topical issue or problem. In 2014 the competition focused on waste management. The proposed solution has to be developed in two areas, namely science and robotics. The scientific project has to identify a real problem, research it and propose an innovative solution, while the development of a robot aims to take part in the resolution of pre-established missions by using engineering concepts.

The teams which take part have the opportunity to display and test their robots at a public exhibition, at which the jury evaluates the ability of the Lego Mindstorms robots to autonomously complete a set of tasks on a game board. Each task has a specific score and the aim is to complete each of them within a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

The Micro First Lego League goes far beyond the competition itself. During the previous weeks, the teams, led by coaches, build and program and learn how to find and analyse information and submit the results of their research.

The top three in the Andorran competition qualify for the Catalan event, which serves to select the participants in the Spanish final, leading on, in turn, to the designation of the representatives in the international tournament.
