More schools and more teams at the Micro First Lego League

The robotics competition will be held on 19 December with a record number of participants

On December 19, El Prat del Roure will host the fifth edition of the Micro First Lego League, with more schools and more teams taking part.

The great novelty this year is the participation of Sant Ermengol school, which has entered two teams in this event, joining the Mare Janer and Sagrada Família schools and three secondary schools from the Andorran system. On Monday, it was indeed at Sant Ermengol where the press conference was held to present the Micro First Lego League.

At Andorra Telecom, we organise the Andorran edition of this international robotics competition, which encourages young people to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Carles Casadevall, spokesman for Andorra Telecom, welcomed the participation of new schools in each edition. “The tournament is now fully consolidated. Every year we have more schools and teams, and the most important thing is not the competitive aspect, but that each year more children and teenagers become interested in robotics and science, areas of knowledge that we, as a company and as a country, need to promote”.

In all, 12 teams will participate, two more than last year. This has forced the organisation to change the way the competition is carried out. Thus, the Prat del Roure venue will host four competitions, instead of the usual two, which will host the teams’ demonstrations at the same time.

The Micro First Lego League goes beyond robot construction and programming to lay down a challenge, this year called “Into Orbit,” based on space exploration. The teams must present a scientific project and a value project, which will be assessed by a specialist panel of judges.

The competition, which is open to the public, will be held on 19 December from 5 p.m.
