Andorra Telecom launches its new eSIM Service, a virtual SIM card integrated into your mobile phone

This new functionality, that is already compatible with several brands of phone, will make it possible to have more than one phone number associated with a single handset

The eSIM is the next step up from traditional SIM cards. State-of-the-art smartphones already have built-in SIM technology that’s ready to go - you can install your number with no need for a physical card.

Andorra Telecom launched this new service on Tuesday, and it will be available on any phone that already has integrated eSIM technology. “We estimate that there could currently be around 6,500 mobile phones in Andorra that are already compatible with the eSIM. This figure will obviously increase as new models are released by large international manufacturers”, stated Carles Casadevall, spokesperson at Andorra Telecom.

The main advantage of the eSIM is that the user can have more than one phone number associated with the same device. “It’s very convenient to have your work number and your personal number on the same handset, for example, and people who spend a lot of time abroad and have SIM cards from different providers can have them all active on the same phone”, Casadevall explained.

Customers whose phones are compatible with eSIMs can come into any Andorra Telecom sales office to request one, or alternatively call 115 where one of our sales representatives will be happy to go through the procedure with them. To facilitate the implementation of the new service, the fee will be a one-off payment of 6 euros, IGI included, which matches the cost of a copy or duplicate of a physical card.

Carles Casadevall has indicated that the introduction of the eSIM is the company’s next step in the process of digitalisation and it reflects a desire to incorporate technological advances that “although currently relevant to just some of our customers, will soon become the norm”.
