This morning, Ester Vilarrubla, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Jordi Nadal, the Managing Director of Andorra Telecom, opened the new infrastructure of the Wi-Fi network of the schools in the Principality at the Germans Riba d’Ordino school.
It’s a technological project in which the telecommunications operator collaborates with and forms part of the company’s public responsibility initiatives to promote the country’s digitalisation, as well as its commitment to the training of our children and young people.
The Wi-Fi in schools project has led to the complete renovation and modernisation of the entire infrastructure of the Wi-Fi network of all the state schools attached to the Ministry of Education, in other words, a total of 33 schools in the Principality. This improvement will be able to give an effective answer to the demands and constant evolution of the technological needs of the schools in our country. Above all, these requirements have arisen within the framework of the protocols established by the health situation caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and to continue to guarantee the quality of an infrastructure that has become obsolete over the years.
Minister Vilarrubla highlighted the aim of the project “to offer a better service in the classrooms, modernising the technology by adapting to the technological needs, particularly those that have arisen within the context of the health situation caused by the pandemic.”
Andorra Telecom has not limited its collaboration to financing the entire deployment of the Wi-Fi network in the schools at an approximate cost of €500,000, implemented by means of a Government public tender, as the company has also taken on the management of the project and its technical office, specially created in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to execute the deployment in a coordinated way.
Andorra Telecom’s Managing Director sought to highlight “the company's commitment to align itself with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG4, which guarantees inclusive, equitable and high-quality education and promotes opportunities for lifelong learning for everyone.”

According to Nadal, “the operator’s knowledge and experience is at the disposal of projects of this significance, ones which guarantee better connectivity at the schools and the promotion of the best advances in the digitalisation of the educational models.
