One of the toughest endurance races in the world came to Andorra for the very first time in 2016. The first Encamp-Andorra Spartan Race, which had Andorra Telecom as its technology partner, was held in the last week of July in Grau Roig, with a total of 1,900 participants.
The demanding terrain, spectacular natural environment and great height, with spots along the route reaching above 2,400 metres, are features that help make the competition a success. The Encamp race attracts a wide selection of international athletes, and the race itself forms part of the international circuit.
In addition to the most popular obstacle races such as “Super” or “Beast”, for the first time in Europe the Hurricane Heat was held, a race in which teams of participants must overcome unexpected obstacles and challenges put in place by the organisation at the last minute. Spartans also have to carry 450 kg tyres throughout the whole race.
