The Andorra Ultra Trail has become one of the top competitions in mountain trail running. The race, held in the month of July and covering practically all of Andorra, has not only managed to secure a place on the international racing calendar, but is also a favourite among runners, given the beauty and difficulty of the route and the excellence of the organisation.
Andorra Telecom has been an important partner from the very beginning of the Ultra Trail in 2009, providing the infrastructure necessary to guarantee the connectivity between the organisation and the participants.
The runners have an RFID chip that can monitor their position during the race. Hundreds of beacons read the runner's chip as they pass by, sending their position through the Andorra Telecom's 3G network to the race's central computer, which then automatically posts their position on the competition's website.
Monitoring is essential not only for purposes of timekeeping and control, but also to ensure the safety of the participants. At the same time, Andorra Telecom also provides the connection between different members of the organisation and to the Wi-Fi areas.
