One of the priorities of Andorra Telecom's public service is to guarantee the connectivity of the schools forming part of the country's three education systems. The company and Ministry of Education work together to provide uninterrupted Internet access and the connection between schools and those forming part of the education community.
This long-standing collaboration between the two parts was formalised in October 2013 with the signing of an accord between the then ministers of Education and Youth, Roser Suñé, and Economy and Territory, Jordi Alcobé. The cornerstone of the accord is the National Education Network of Andorra (XENA in its Catalan initials), an Intranet system with a total of 29 access points, located at education centres and the Ministry itself.
The fibre-optic network distributes internal traffic at 100 MB/second, and diverts external traffic through a high-capacity line of ten GB/second. The concentration at a single exit point provides many more levels of protection to the Intranet system, which also provides a Wi-Fi service to all the centres. Andorra Telecom currently sets aside 20% of Andorra's network capacity for its education facilities.
The accord promotes joint projects intended to foster the use of information technology throughout the educational system. At the same time, it guarantees that the operator provides the necessary resources to adapt the infrastructure to technological changes and the promotion of the knowledge society.
The Xena network is interconnected at 1GB from each centre to the 10GB internet outlet. Enjoy an upgraded Wi-Fi network with new security capabilities. Part of the network is set aside for education.
