Andorra Telecom and Pyrénées, hand in hand with Club de Rubik de Catalunya, have presented the second edition of the tournament, which will be played on 25 November at the FNAC, following the positive reception of the first edition among the country's enthusiasts.

The Andorran competition is included in the international calendar of the World Cube Association (WCA). The event will have 10 separate categories, including different types of puzzles (e.g. Pyraminx, Clock, Skewb and Square-1), different levels (i.e. 2x2 and 4x4), different ways of solving them (for example with one hand, with the least number of moves or blindfolded), and the "top" category is the good old Rubik's Cube.

The second edition, which was presented by the marketing director of Pyrénées, Joaquim Serrahima, and Andorra Telecom's Director of Customer Relations, Josep Vilana, includes some novelties, such as the awarding of two prizes: one for the absolute winner and one for the best classified national winner. All the same, a token enrolment fee of €2 is planned, to ensure that all those registered show up on the day of the tournament.

"Last year, some people that were interested in taking part and they couldn't enrol because there were no more places, but in the end some of those enrolled didn't turn up. That's why we're charging €2 to enrol," explained Joaquim Serrahim, who also pointed out the high level of participation of the Andorran people in the first edition, encouraging them to compete again "to show what they'd learnt". 

For his part, Josep Vilana remarked on "the acceptance these puzzles have among young people the country, which seems to ensure the number of people registered for this second edition, and we hope that the event will consolidate as another competition in the international calendar."

As in the first edition, the competition will be held on just one day, Saturday 25 November. In the morning, the qualifying competitions will be held, and in the afternoon, the finals. Registration is limited to 60 people, and must be done via the WCA portal. The website of Pyrénées will also provide information about the event.

Andorra Telecom includes this partnership among its initiatives to support training activities in science and technology, with outstanding events designed for young people, such as the Micro First Lego League and the World Robot Olympiad. As for Pyrénées, the organisation of this tournament is part of the FNAC's project to boost cultural and leisure activities.
