10,000 customers already have the new fibre optic
The renovation project on the fibre optic terminals is progressing at a healthy pace. Over the last week we have achieved the figure of 10,000 homes migrated to the new active network, a much more stable and robust system which provides all users with a speed of up to 300 Mbps.
The renovation plan was activated in March. Since then, coverage has reached the parishes of Sant Julià, La Massana and Santa Coloma, areas chosen because they had displayed the most significant incident rates. The main migration phase began in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes in June.
The balance for the project’s first months has been excellent. The new network has displayed greater reliability, with a notable reduction in the number of incidents. Similarly, there has been a significant increase in the speed of the new fibre optic, which, in the direct measurements from the ONTs, stands at an average of 270 Mbps.
Andorra Telecom conducts a survey among all its migrated clients which reflects their satisfaction with the new ONTs, the devices users have attached to the wall in their homes. The global rating is 4.91 out of 5, while the partial scores for each of the required criteria are as follows: friendliness (4.95), professionalism (4.93), punctuality (4.88) and information (4.89).
In this regard, Gerard Bosch, the renovation project manager, has declared that without the “predisposition of our clients the migration process would be much more complicated”, and he wishes to thank them for their cooperation.
180 visits to clients are currently being made each day, an achievement which demands painstaking planning and a highly accurate mechanism to arrange appointments via the call center. The company underlines that the average installation time at users’ homes is 34 minutes and that the arrival of the technician has been brought forward by an average of three minutes.
The renovation of the active Internet network is one of the most ambitious projects in recent years, and it is expected to be completed by January 2018. In total, 6.5 million euros have been invested in the process to replace the 32 OLTs and 35,000 ONTs with the support of Huawei, one of the international benchmarks among technological companies and a world leader in fibre optic. 31 technicians from companies around the country have been recruited to perform the installations for the clients.
