The Micro First Lego League grows, with over ten teams participating

They represent the Andorran schools of Santa Coloma, Encamp and Ordino, as well as the Janer and Sagrada Família schools. The trial will be held on 24 January at the Illa Carlemany cinema

The 4th edition of the Micro First Lego League, organised by Andorra Telecom, will take place on 24 January. A record number of teams will be taking part, reflecting the growth of robotics in teaching centres.

A total of ten teams, three more than in the last edition, will take part in the competition, which will take place at the Illa Carlemany Cinema for the first time. Three of the participating teams come from the Janer school, while one comes from the Sagrada Família school. The Andorran schools of Santa Coloma, Ordino and Encamp will be sending two teams each.

The head of Sponsorship, Press and Corporate Social Responsibility at Andorra Telecom, Inés Martí, expressed her satisfaction at the growth of this competition. “If the participation of the Janer and Sagrada Família schools was great news for us in the last edition, this time we have a record number of teams, which we consider a total success.” She noted that the current format of the competition is at its limit, and that “if the number of teams continues to grow next year, we’ll have to hold an initial qualifying phase.”

The Micro First Lego League is a competition where participating student teams build and programme a robot that has to face a challenge related to environmental or social sustainability. This year, the leitmotiv of the completion will be the relationship between humans and water, under the generic title "Hydro Dynamics". In this challenge, participants need to propose formulas to improve water research, transportation and use.

The Micro First Lego League is divided into three categories: the scientific project, the values project, and the design and programming of a robot for the proposed challenge.

The scientific programme is one of the pillars of the First LEGO LEAGUE, and it offers teams an opportunity to provide creative and innovative solutions. As criteria for evaluation and investigation, the jury will take into account the innovative nature of the solutions provided and their presentation.

The international organisation knows that a competition of this sort with a clear educational bent wouldn't make sense unless the teams took into account a series of values such as teamwork, fair play, sharing experiences and collaboration.

Finally, the robots built and programmed by the teams will be asked to complete a series of missions that include collecting rainwater, replacing pipes and cleaning a purifier.

Andorra Telecom is sponsoring the Micro First Lego League as part of its support to educational projects involving training in technology and innovation.
