The Conand Cybersecurity Conference to devote two days to student awareness.

The second edition is to be held from 5 to 8 February at the Andorra la Vella Convention Centre with the participation of renowned specialists in the field.

In the first week in February, the Andorra la Vella Convention Centre will be welcoming Conand, the second international cybersecurity conference, with this year's event placing special emphasis on raising student awareness.

The first two days of the Conference, which has the support of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, will be devoted to the education of teens from 12 to 16 from various schools and colleges in the area. The talks, organized by the Spanish non-profit "X1RedMasSegura", literally "for a more secure Internet", will be given by Josep Albors, a malware and security expert in on-line gaming, Juan Antonio Calles, specialist in ethical hacking and computer security, and Àngel Pablo Avilés, expert in cybersecurity and cybercrime.

The sessions themselves are organized by the Conand Association, which lends the Conference its name, and the main sponsors Andorra Telecom. David Julian, risk engineer at Andorra Telecom and one of the proponents of the Conference, explained at Tuesday's presentation that the successful turnout for last year's specific children's activities led to the decision to broaden the scope this year. Alex Estalés, a member of the Andorran Police Authority's technology crimes unit, stressed the importance of raising awareness among children and adolescents about using the Internet: "It is crucial that our children and teens, who have grown up on line, should realise that there are threats  on the net and learn how to protect themselves.”

The talks aimed at a more professional audience will begin on Wednesday, 7 February. The Minister of Education and Higher Education, Eric Jover, will open the proceedings at 9:00 am. The first of the talks is set to follow, generically entitled "Steganography, whatever you say, dear", given by Ruth Sala Ordóñez, a criminal lawyer specializing in computer crime, and José Aurelio Garcia, an IT auditor and expert. The talks and presentations will continue throughout the day, concluding with a round-table discussion.

with attendees in the morning and afternoon sessions include: Selva Orejon, Stéphane Tonelli, Maria Àngels Moreno, Àlex Ribot, Abraham Pasamar, Carlos Fragoso, Vicente Aguilera, Javi Espejo, Manuel González, Chema Garcia, Lucas Varela and Marc del Valle. The complete programme and registration forms can be found at the website  www.conand.ad

Jordi Celades, member of the organization and head of security products at Andorra Telecom, noted that the conference not only addresses an audience that is specialized in computers, law, justice and finance, but also havs a much broader scope, due to the current significance of the issues covered. In this regard, he mentioned the importance of the round table discussion entitled "Cyberterrorism and cross-border crime", which closed the first day and is moderated by the Director of Security and Control at Andorra Telecom, Cèsar Marquina. Also taking part will be Mayor Maria Àngels Moreno, Spanish lawyer Javier Zaragoza, who specialises in cybercrime, and cybersecurity experts Carlos Fragoso and Vicente Aguilera.

The organizers expects to surpass the figures achieved by the first edition, which closed with a total of 348 attendees at the conference and 93 at the workshops. Registration is free.
