International standards force changes to DTT this year
Neighbor associations will have to adjust their collective aerials. The changes will enable Andorra Television to broadcast in high definition
The arrival of 5G mobile technology, expected in 2020, will force the company to make changes to DTT this year. These changes are compulsory, in accordance with the European Telecommunications Law, and will cause the frequency of certain DTT channels to change, so they can be re-tuned before October 31st.
The DTT channels affected by this frequency shift are Esports3, Euronews, TV5 Monde and Pirineus TV. This modification will also enable Andorra Television to broadcast in High Definition (HD).
To be able to watch these five channels after October, residential blocks need to make a small change to their collective aerials (which can be made now), while single-family homes will only have to re-tune their DTT channels to the new, updated frequency.
This process, known as the second dividend digital, must be carried out at the same time as in Spain and France, and will be carried out in stages during October, as the different areas covered by the DTT emitting aerials in the Principality are covered.
