The Video Gaming Convention celebrates its 10th edition by redesigning its focus on trainin

The Chief Executive Officer of Andorra Telecom announced the “surprise” appearance at the event of LOLiTO, currently one of the most popular YouTubers
The Video Gaming Convention, to be held from 21 to 24 February, is revving up its engines. The popularity of online gaming competitions has influenced the line-up of events for this 10th edition of the convention, which will be offering a major surprise and a redesigned training programme.

Jordi Nadal, the Chief Executive Officer of Andorra Telecom, Trini Marín, the Mayor of Escaldes-Engordany, and Miquel Nicolau, the Rector of the University of Andorra (UdA), presented the Convention Programme at a press conference on Tuesday. It will allow young people to enjoy the latest products on the market and, at the same time, have access to educational and training events.

Nadal particularly wished to thank the University of Andorra for its support, which has allowed educational events to take place as part of the convention. “We are fully aware that we need to take advantage of this platform to publicise the enormous professional and economic opportunities offered by this growing sector,” said Nadal.

To this end, the UdA has organised a seminar aimed at students both from the Computer Science degree at the University and from the Systems and Networks course at the Andorra Vocational Training Centre. The course is given by certified professionals and allows students to learn about the industry, its segments and professional roles, as well as the design, programming, sale and marketing of video games.

Miquel Nicolau was keen to emphasise the importance to the UdA of strengthening its ties with other major organisations in Andorran society such as Andorra Telecom. He stressed that this initiative will allow young people to discover the employment opportunities offered by video gaming, a sector with burgeoning potential.

Jordi Nadal also announced that this year’s Convention will have a surprise guest, the popular YouTuber LOLiTO, who has almost five million subscribers. His appearance will take place on the last day of the Convention, and “is sure to be a big hit”. Nadal encouraged “all followers of the trending game Fortnite” to keep an eye on Andorra Telecom social media over the coming days to check out the details of LOLiTO’s appearance.

The Convention will feature 19 areas and more than 96 stands. The World Skiing Cup finals, to be held from 11 to 17 March, will have an exclusive arena where gamers will be able to emulate the competitors and simulate skiing down the Àliga piste, thanks to a partnership with Grandvalira.

Whilst Fortnite will be the highlight of the show, there will also be other chart-topping games including NBA, FIFA 2019, Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 4, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Call of Duty, Just Dance 2019, Battlefield 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Darksiders III.

The Mayor of Escaldes-Engordany expressed her contentment with this consolidation of the initial 2010 partnership between Andorra Telecom and the Community of Escaldes. “From the very outset we have backed this event, which has become an unmissable annual date in our community’s calendar. This year we are celebrating the 10th edition.”

Nadal also referred to the milestone being marked by this 10th edition of the Convention, emphasising that it has not only succeeded in attracting teenagers and adult gamers but is also an event that attracts families and is open to partnerships with other organisations.

Andorra Telecom is also taking the opportunity provided by the event to advertise the opportunities offered by its new 700 Mbps fibre optic service which enables interconnection of multiple devices at maximum speed.
